Smart City Transport gives Panama's public and private transportation users a single payment system valid across a comprehensive transportation network. The facilities include a metro system, buses, and an intermodal terminal of considerable size.

In addition to the enormous benefits for users, the solution improves operation control and facilitates drivers' work, reducing waiting times through self-service payment operations.

Business Need

The Panama City Transportation Authority must develop, implement, operate, and maintain an automated fare collection system for Panama's metro area. Metrobus Panama and Gran Terminal Albrook are two examples of public and private passenger transportation systems that benefit from this software.

Solution

SONDA's Smart City Transport solution provides a comprehensive approach to transportation. Collection Management Systems (Ticketing) and the distribution of these funds to different service providers (Clearing) are included in this module, as are Fleet Management Systems and User Information Systems. It covers the entire public and private transportation cycle and the various components that integrate it (equipment, software, and IT services).

Results

SONDA's solution and services enabled the implementation of a more efficient, reliable, and secure public transportation payment system. As a result of the new system, Panama's transportation system has become one of the most modern in Latin America, operating automatically and integrating buses and subways under one payment method.

This system includes more than 1,200 bus routes, subway stations, surface buses, and the Albrook station. SONDA's public transportation program in Latin America is one of its major successes.
