The project will enable one of the most prestigious educational and health institutions in Chile to continue growing and providing important services to the country without concerning itself about the computing platform required for its SAP and Banner applications, by using an IaaS model (Infrastructure as a Service).
Universidad de Los Andes is one of the most prestigious private universities in Chile with close to 6300 students, a third of whom are pursuing health professions. These courses are shared with one of the country’s most advanced educational health centers, Clínica Los Andes, which was founded in 2014, in addition to a health care center in San Bernardo that forms part of the university’s health network.
The institution tendered for its IT Infrastructure and Platform Services during 2017, covering both for the Los Andes Hospital and University. This tender included migrating SAP ERP services, the BANNER application for education and the X86 server platform from IBM, the current provider. It was awarded to SONDA using an IaaS model (Infrastructure as a Service), where the dedicated infrastructure is provided as a service, and results in significant savings and benefits by converting CAPEX into OPEX.
The service includes managing virtual and physical servers, their core operating software, storage and backup devices, databases and the entire IT system, which will introduce various technological benefits, particularly operational continuity for the customer on a 24×7 basis with high availability.
The contract runs for a period of five years from November 2017, and requires SONDA to take full responsibility for managing the entire computing infrastructure at the university and the health centers. This includes monitoring services, systems management, SAP management, communications, back-ups, infrastructure, and virtualization.
